In 2008, Paul and Alessandra Dalla Lana donated $20-million to the University of Toronto’s newly established School of Public Health. This transformative donation — the largest gift ever given to public health in Canada — endowed chairs in Public Health Policy, Disease Control and Global Health and 24 professional masters student awards.
The decision to narrow in on the school and work with U of T was an easy one because we were looking for an opportunity to contribute that could make an impact and build upon excellence.

In February 2018, the Dalla Lana family “doubled-down” on their investment in the School with a second $20-million gift to further strengthen the School’s academic excellence and enhance its tradition of building stronger health systems and healthier communities.
“The initial gift from Paul and Alessandra allowed our School to emerge as a research, teaching and service powerhouse with impact locally and globally. Now, with public health and health systems experts working together in innovative ways, integration between services and professionals will result in dramatic improvements in population health and health system sustainability.”
