The aim of this study was to measure the levels of chemical additives in young children’s sleeping environments.

Eligibility

Eligible participants are parents of children aged 1-4 who sleep in separate beds and live in Greater Toronto Area.

Participation Requirements

For this study, participants are asked to deploy 3 non-toxic silicone rubber samplers in their children’s sleeping environment. Two samplers will be placed on top of the mattress and under the bed sheet to collect chemical additives from bedding materials. Another sampler is placed beside the bed to sample the ambient bedroom air. The sampling period is 7 days. In addition, participants are required to fill out a brief questionnaire. Participants receive a sampling kit including samplers, questionnaire, comprehensive instruction, and all other requirements.

Compensation/Benefits

There are no direct benefits from participating in this study. Results from this study will be used to develop actions to minimize exposure to environmental chemicals. This will be accomplished by sharing the information with Health Canada, major retailers of children’s products, and the media.

Location & Contact Information

There is no need for in-person/online meetings. The sampling kit will be delivered to the participants’ homes.
