Daneese Rao

Class of 2022

Daneese Rao is based in Toronto and holds master of arts and bachelor of arts degrees in history from McGill University in Montreal. Her area of interest is late 19th century and early 20th century North American social and political history, with a focus on the intersections of citizenship, race, gender and class. She is also interested in historical memory and history from below, which seeks to centre the experiences of those typically marginalized from the historical record. She is passionate about making history engaging and accessible for broad audiences and hopes to highlight the linkages between the past and contemporary issues through journalism.
