Dr. Michael Hutchison is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and Director of the Centre for Sport-Related Concussion, Innovation, and Knowledge.
This presentation will review and discuss the inception and enactment of Rule 48 – the illegal check to the head, showcasing how it emerged through a unique collaboration between research and policy transformation in professional sports. Furthermore, the presentation will explore the implications of this rule on player behavior modification, shedding light on additional policies and strategies aimed at enhancing player safety in the context of concussions within the NHL.
