OEH Seminar presents…

‘Incorporating sex and gender in occupational research on heart disease’

About this event:

Psychosocial stressors at work (PSW) derived from Job strain and efforts-reward imbalance models are occupational risks linked to coronary heart disease (CHD) incidence. Our study explored sex and gender disparities in PSW’s association with CHD among 6,465 white-collar workers followed over 20 years. Combined job strain and ERI increased CHD risk in males but not females. Being masculine according to our new gender measure amplified this risk. Additionally, certain masculine characteristics, including a university education and working as a professional workers or managers, also exacerbated the CHD risk. These findings emphasize the pivotal role of sex and gender considerations in occupational CHD research, informing targeted workplace interventions and public health strategies.
