About the event:
Title: “Depression and PTSD Risk among Canadian Paramedics during COVID-19”
Paramedics are considered a high-risk occupation for the development of mental health disorders during non-outbreak conditions. During COVID-19, paramedics were responsible to undertake exposure-prone procedures as part of their everyday job, despite uncertainty regarding the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This seminar will characterize prevalence rates, modelling of predictors, and gender differences observed among Canadian paramedics meeting the screening risk criteria for major depressive disorder (MDD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Presenter: Christopher MacDonald
Christopher MacDonald is a PhD candidate from the University of Toronto’s Occupational and Environmental Health division. Chris spent a decade working as a frontline paramedic in the Greater Toronto Area, before becoming a Senior Policy Advisor for the Ontario government. Chris is passionate about the occupational health of paramedics and other first responders, particularly their mental health and wellbeing.
