About this event:
Title: Surveillance of Asbestos Related Disease using the Ontario Asbestos Workers Registry
This talk will present results from a surveillance study of asbestos-related disease (ARD) using the Asbestos Workers Registry (AWR), a mandatory exposure registry in Ontario, Canada. Research on ARD has traditionally focused on miners and other groups with well-recognized, consistently high exposure. Contemporary exposure to asbestos occurs more intermittently, for example during remediation and maintenance of asbestos-containing materials. The AWR was established in 1986 to track asbestos exposure during construction activities. Results from the current study show that ARD continues to occur in Ontario among workers enrolled in the AWR. The role for exposure registries in occupational disease prevention will also be discussed.
