The National Eating Disorder Information Centre’s 7th biennial body image and self-esteem conference, RADICAL UNLEARNING, takes place May 9-10th, 2019 at the Chestnut Conference Centre in Toronto.
The conference has been organized around the theme Radical Unlearning, which calls for unpacking and unlearning negative and erroneous messaging to which people have been subjected. It will be a unique opportunity in Canada for attendees to share and learn more about current research, evidence-based practices, and innovations in the areas of eating disorder prevention and treatment in a multi-disciplinary, action-oriented environment. Attendees will gain practical skills they can apply immediately in their practice settings, from clinics to classrooms and beyond.
Keynote speakers:
Sonya Renee Taylor – leader in the body positivity movement and founder of The Body Is Not An Apology
Gerry Kasten – public health dietitian and adjunct professor at the University of British Columbia
Lucy Aphramor – renowned dietitian and co-author of Body Respect: What Conventional Health Books Get Wrong, Leave Out, and Just Plain Fail to Understand about Weight
Workshop topics include: “Walk the Talk: Self-Compassion for Frontline Professionals”, “Healing in the Margins: Using Arts-Based Interventions to Address Barriers to Treatment”, “Providing Culturally and Clinically Competent Care for LGBT2SQGnC Persons”, “Unsafe as a Way of Life: Complex Trauma in the Development of Binge Eating Disorder”
Early bird rates will be in effect until February 15, 2019.
