Longform investigative journalism is as relevant as ever to communicate critically important stories to broad audiences. But what tools do investigative journalists use to create cohesive and readable longform stories using leads, interviews, public records, and redacted datasets?

In this workshop, senior investigative reporters from The Toronto Star and the University of Toronto’s Investigative Journalism Bureau will reveal how the strategies they employ can be used in the service of crafting literary nonfiction.

Panelists include: Rob Cribb, Senior Investigative Reporter, Toronto Star, and Director, Investigative Journalism Bureau, University of Toronto; Declan Keogh, Senior Reporter, Investigative Journalism Bureau; and Wendy-Ann Clarke, Reporter, Investigative Journalism Bureau.

This discussion is hosted by Dan Werb, TPL’s Spring 2023 Literary Nonfiction Writer in Residence at Toronto Reference Library. Dan is an award-winning writer, epidemiologist and the author of two books of literary nonfiction.
