About this Seminar:
Since the legalization of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) in Canada, practitioners have been faced with various challenges around interpretation and implementation of guidelines. The goal of this presentation is to reflect on some of these challenges, particularly as they pertain to patients with co-morbid psychiatric illness.
Objectives:
To review current and proposed legislation around MAID
To understand the challenges involved in assessing patients with life-limiting illnesses and concurrent psychiatric co-morbidities
To explore factors involved in suffering that may precipitate a MAID request
