Presented by the Joint Centre for Bioethics…

The Sue MacRae Lecture on Ethics and Patient-Centred Care aims to explore the felt ethical experience of those who are sick or unwell, perhaps in their relationship to themselves, family members, caregivers, and/or systems of care. The goal is to understand how patient-centred or relationship-centred frameworks and best practices – inclusive of patient and/or family perspectives – can help illuminate and address common bioethical problems.

Abstract:
In 2020, the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre at UHN established a new program to address the intersectional needs of 2SLGBTQIA+ patients and their chosen family members. This lecture is going to introduce the program and demonstrate the process underlying successful cultural and organizational change in healthcare. It will also critically reflect on approaches to improving access to care for equity-seeking groups and will discuss lessons learned and future directions.
