Course Description
This course will provide students with an understanding of the role of national and global health
systems, their policies, and practices in relation to Black health. Specifically, this course will apply
economic, epidemiological, and comparative policy analysis methods and tools to examine health
disparities and the impact of policies and practices aimed at improving Black health in transnational
contexts.
Course Objectives
Students completing this course will be able to demonstrate:
- Learn to communicate, present, and lecture (address) policy and practices in relation to Black
population health. - How health policy is made and implemented and its impact on intersectional Black populations.
- Understanding of national and global policies and practices and their connections to Black
Health. - Different types of policy analysis methods and tools.
- How policy and practices can support Black health transnationally.
- Ground-breaking policy and practices that support the wellness of African/Black populations
and Black public health transnationally. - Critical understanding on anti-Black racism and colonialism and the impact on health policies
and practices on the health of African/Black populations from an intersectional, anti-racist, antioppression,
anti-colonial framework. - Knowledge of key issues related to health policy, practice, policy change with African/Black
populations. - To develop and create health policy and practices for Black communities.
- Learn to engage creatively and critically with critical Black health policy and practices.
