Jean-​Louis Denis Joins DLSPH as New Faculty Member

The following message was sent to the DLSPH community announcing the hiring of our new faculty member, Jean-Louis Denis.

Dear DLSPH Faculty and Staff,

We are happy to share the news that a new faculty member will be joining us in July, in the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME) at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health (DLSPH). Jean-Louis Denis will serve as a professor in health policy.

Professor Denis comes to us from the University of Montréal, where he has been serving as the Program Director of the Professional Doctoral Program in their School of Public Health. His previous roles include Director of the Research Centre at the Hospital Charles Lemoyne (CRHCLM), Director of the Institut de recherche en santé publique at the University of Montréal (IRSPUM), and Director of the Interdisciplinary Health Research Group in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Montréal.

Image of Jean-Louis DenisHe has experience serving as a senior advisor in various policy-facing activities with ministry of health and social services, government agencies dedicated to health systems transformations and improvement, medical unions and professional associations. He strongly values the role of research in supporting innovations and policy development within health systems.

Professor Denis obtained his PhD in Community Health from the University of Montréal, with a focus on the Organization of Health Services, and his master’s degree in health services administration, from the University of Montréal. His postdoctoral studies were completed at McGill University, in the Faculty of Management.

His work focuses on applied health services research, organizational studies, and policy research. In addition to maintaining his current courseload, supervision of graduate students, interns, and postdoctoral fellows, Professor Denis has coauthored nine books, 83 research reports to government and other agencies, 82 book chapters, and 258 publications in peer-reviewed journals.

“I am very happy to join IHPME at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health,” said Jean-Louis. “This is a place with a very strong reputation in academia for teaching, research and its contribution to the community. I am looking forward to further developing my research with my new colleagues in such an interdisciplinary environment. I am honored to be a professor in health policy and to become the holder of the Ontario Research Chair in Health Policy and System Design at the University of Toronto.”
