DLSPH Open: Welcome Back!
September 6/2019
Dear colleagues,
It’s good to see the halls and elevators so crowded with people again!
Welcome back to the faculty and students returning from fieldwork around the world or a well-deserved break. Welcome to our 13 new postdoctoral fellows and to our four newest faculty members:
- Roberta Timothy, SBHS
- Amaya Perez-Brumer, SBHS
- Meena Andiappan, IHPME
- Lucas Dufour, IHPME
And on behalf of the entire DLSPH community I’d like to extend a very warm welcome to all 457 of our incoming graduate students in the public health sciences, at IHPME and at the Joint Centre for Bioethics.
You’ll find many changes and new initiatives at DLSPH this year. Energized by our first Academic Plan, which was finalized this Spring, we are evaluating proposals for our first slate of school-wide interdisciplinary research projects – one of many plans to grow and increase diversity over the next five years. As well, we are in the midst of launching the Centre for Sustainable Health Systems. And we are proud to be the new home of the Fellowship in Global Journalism, which moved here from the Munk School of Global Affairs over the summer.
These are just a few highlights. Stay tuned to hear more about them and to learn about how we are expanding our research and educational offerings to become a hub of lifelong learning for public health, policy and health systems professionals – current and future.
As always, I’m looking forward to meeting as many of our new students and faculty as possible, so if you see me in the building, please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself – and please do call me Steini. You’ll know me because I’m usually the tallest person in the room!
All my best,
Adalsteinn (Steini) Brown
