DLSPH Response to Anti-Black Racism
March 22/2018
Dear DLSPH Community:
The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is committed to its core values of equity and diversity and condemnation of anti-Black racism, and all forms of discrimination and recognizes the central role that inequity plays in producing and shaping not only major public health concerns, but also the perpetuation of systemic issues of societal marginalization.
The School recognizes that diversity, or lack thereof, commonly reflects the same social structures that underpin equity. We are committed to ensuring that our Statement on Diversity and Equity continues to be implemented as a foundational marker of the School.
As part of our continued commitment and the recommendations of our Diversity and Equity Committee, the Dalla Lana School of Public Health is actively seeking the appointment of an Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Lead who will conduct an audit of the School and report to the Dean on the state of diversity and anti-Black racism issues.
The Dalla Lana School of Public Health believes that equity, human rights, diversity, and inclusiveness are foundational for promoting the public health and providing a place of academic excellence for our students and our faculty. We will continue to be unwavering in our commitment to uphold the values of our School and the University of Toronto and do more to ensure that we understand and respond to the root causes of racism, inequity and exclusion.
Sincerely,
Adalsteinn Brown
Interim Dean, Dalla Lana School of Public Health
