Public health at the University of Toronto is ranked number five globally in a new ranking of academic subjects by the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
Also referred to as the Shanghai Rankings, the subject of public health at U of T, which has a home at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, placed behind U.S. universities such as Harvard University and Johns Hopkins University, but ahead of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and Columbia University.
“Congratulations and thank-you to our faculty, students and staff. It’s our hard work as a team that drives this sort of success and international recognition,” said Professor Adalsteinn Brown, Interim Dean of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and Dalla Lana Chair in Public Health Policy.
The 2017 Shanghai Subject Ranking, released June 28, 2017, surveyed more than 4,000 top global universities in 52 subject areas, including natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences. It uses bibliometric data as the source for the majority of its indicators, complemented by data on faculty honours and awards in selected subjects.
