Global Health Summit: Creating a Pandemic of Health is underway

From November 3 to 5, the Dalla Lana School of Public Health is hosting a Global Health Equity and Innovation Summit, “Creating a Pandemic of Health,” that aims to shift the emphasis in health care away from the traditional focus on disease and towards a concentration on health and well-being. The summit is a catalyst for the School to harness the brainpower of U of T’s global health experts — a critical mass unmatched by any other Canadian institution — to inspire a young generation of global and public health leaders who will advance the idea of creating and spreading health.
On day one of the summit, Paul and Alessandra Dalla Lana, founding benefactors of the School, announced their intention to double their gift to the Dalla Lana School of Public Health.
"We are thrilled by this news and look forward to sharing further details in the future," said Howard Hu, Dean of the Dalla Lana School of Public Health.
Hosted at the MaRS Discovery District Conference Facility, the summit is bringing together global health luminaries from Toronto and around the world, including:
Monday, November 4
1. Creating and Spreading Health
· The Honourable Marc Lalonde, Canadian political giant whose 1974 report first recognized the biomedical health care system is out-of-balance
· Adalsteinn Brown, U of T’s Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation Director
2. Preventing the Preventable, Treating the Treatable, Transcending the Inevitable,
· Ross Upshur, Clinical Public Health Head and WHO Ebola ethics committee member
