Biostatistics Professor receives CIHR funding to develop new genetic data analysis methods
February 6/2014
Lei Sun, Associate Professor of Biostatistics, received five years of funding from the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) to develop new statistical methods with enhanced ability to find links between genetic variants and complex human traits.
The interdisciplinary team, including Andrew Paterson, Associate Professor of Biostatistics and Epidemiology and Lisa Strug, Assistant Professor of Biostatistics, aims to harness the full potential of genetic information that is now available as a result of technological advances in whole-genome sequencing. This CIHR grant will allow Sun and collaborators to explore advanced analytical methods that can be applied to this deluge of data to help researchers determine how genes interact with environmental factors and the resulting impact on health and disease.
