Vision
Our vision is the improvement of the public health through innovations and advances in epidemiologic research and education.
Mission
We will create new knowledge as to the causes and outcomes of health and disease in populations, train the next generation of research scientists and public health practitioners, and contribute to the development of public health policies and practices that advance the public health.
Objectives
- Study the causes, distribution, and outcomes of health and disease in human populations, through the application of interdisciplinary and collaborative research methods.
- Develop and apply new methods of research, and develop and test new hypotheses.
- Conduct research that aims to increase disease control and improve outcomes.
- Educate and train future epidemiologists to become accomplished leaders in public health practice.
- Educate research scientists in the content and methods of epidemiology, and enable them to work interdisciplinarily with health services researchers; social, behavioural, and basic scientists; and public health practitioners.
The Division of Epidemiology has a long tradition of focus on the epidemiology of infectious, chronic, and mental disorders, and an emphasis on genetic, behavioural, social and environmental factors affecting human health. We use both quantitative and qualitative research methods to answer important questions affecting the public health.
We offer two degree programs: the Master of Public Health (MPH) and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Our graduates of both programs work as epidemiologists in a variety of settings, including academic institutions and research institutes, public health agencies at all levels of government, private industry, and international organizations.
